1st Draft: BadDog 1/22/21

Image
While not the most pleasing in my opinion, this is the first draft I have come up with for my magazine. I believe that there are good ideas present within here, and that with the help of my peer's feedback, I will be able to refine these ideas into something more pleasing. But as it stands, this is my first draft of my magazine.

Production 7 "First Feedback 1/20/21"

As of now, I have managed to finish of my table of contents. It didn’t look the  best, but  given that my phone was having issues when I decided I wanted to use a photo for this page, I managed to find an i mage of a dog that a friend and I created in illustrator a while back. In addition to this, I managed to get one person to review what I have done so far. He correct ed me on a few of my mistakes which I then fixed, as well as helping me to realize some of my typography needed changing, specifically, the headings I had. With that feedback in mind, I changed up the font and size of some of what  I had done and completed the table of contents, which I realized would look slightly better if the page numbers had a distinct color to emphasize where to find them.  I am still unhappy with how my magazine has turned out thus far, but I will redo it if I find out how to fix it, which I certainly intend to, in large part with more peer feedback ...

Production 6 "Import and Rewrite 1/13/21"

I have imported some of my images into InDesign , as well as the feature article itself. While I attempted to trim more of it, I did not end up feeling comfortable with what was left, so it ended up remaining around three and a half pages.  I did manage to find some lines that I could remove, condense, or combine together, so with that in mind I managed to cut it down to three pages.  In addition to this, I  ended up having to take new photos, as the older ones did not really suit the article very well. The newer ones were still not of the best quality, but given my camera quality, despite being new er, was still not as good as I believed it would be, I had to make do with some lower quality images. I know that there are some issues with the images, but once I get a proper peer review, I will have a more concrete idea as to what those issues are, and therefore be able to fix them. At this point, the only item I have left is th e table of conte...

Production 5 "Another Interview and Feature Article Rewrite 1/11/21"

For this day, I managed to get another interview with someone, Jack Dowd. I tried to get in touch with a dog behaviorist, but I got no response back. At this point, I’m  fairly certain  I will end up with just the  two student interviews. I also rewrote a fair chunk of my feature article. I did not like the way I had worded it previously, and while I am still not a big fan, it is better than what I had before.  With this in mind, I  did end up making the article sound more casual than I would have liked, but  by trying to make it sound more professional, the article ended up feeling boring, so I had to make it slightly more personal . I also had four pages initially, but I am concerned that is a bit too much for the article, I have trimmed it down to three and one half pages, keeping what I found to be the most important and relevant information in the article.  In regards to  the interviews, the one with Thomas was mo...

Production 4 "Feature Article Research 1/8/21"

At this point, I have started to work on my feature article. For this, as has been mentioned in previous posts, I intend to write about dog behavioral problems, specifically, how to prevent dogs from escaping. The work I have completed as of now consists of primarily gathering my research for this problem, research that shows how dog behaviorists suggest fixing this issue, why dogs run away at all, and how to prevent them from running away in the first place. Some of the research appeared contradictory, so I had to spend time on figuring out what was true, and what wasn't. This task, while not completely easy, was not very difficult, as there did seem to be a general consensus on what was effective. I then started to write the actual article down, and although I did not get very far in, I do know how I intend to incorporate my research and interview into the feature article, as I have determined how I want to format the article.

Production 3 "Interview and Photos 1/6/21"

As of today, I have managed to complete my interview with a local student, whose responses supported the information I have gathered for my feature article. He dealt with the problem I will address in my article, dogs running out of the house, and has used the same methods I will be covering in order to get the dog back in. On top of this, I have also taken the photos I will be using for my magazine. I was happy with what I have taken, but when it all gets put into the magazine, my opinion may  change,  and I may have to take new photos. The photos I have gathered are several of a dog, one of a gate leading outside, and one of a  door . Given that I may be displeased with some of them, I took many photos.  In addition to this, while I have not tried this out with all of the photos, there were several in which I used the effects panel to try and see if any of the effects would have a positive impact on the image overall. There are few that I think ...

Production 2 "Continued Cover and Interview Found 12/18/20"

As of today, I have further work completed for the cover design, including the title and magazine article names being placed in the correct order, and having the typography I had previously specified, as well as having refined the logo somewhat. I am still uncertain about it, however, and I find myself more likely to remove the idea from my magazine. I am mostly happy with what the cover became at this point, as I feel that the image I have in mind works well, in theory at least, and I will properly add it to the cover once I have received a better quality camera. I am worried about the execution of my idea, though. In the event that it turns out bad, I will keep trying to retake the photo, improve lighting, angles, or whatever else may need fixing. Another part of the cover, the typography, I may change up the for some of the text, I have yet to decide by this date. I personally find the typography to be appealing, but I will wait for a peer review before making any...
