Production 2 "Continued Cover and Interview Found 12/18/20"

As of today, I have further work completed for the cover design, including the title and magazine article names being placed in the correct order, and having the typography I had previously specified, as well as having refined the logo somewhat. I am still uncertain about it, however, and I find myself more likely to remove the idea from my magazine. I am mostly happy with what the cover became at this point, as I feel that the image I have in mind works well, in theory at least, and I will properly add it to the cover once I have received a better quality camera. I am worried about the execution of my idea, though. In the event that it turns out bad, I will keep trying to retake the photo, improve lighting, angles, or whatever else may need fixing. Another part of the cover, the typography, I may change up the for some of the text, I have yet to decide by this date. I personally find the typography to be appealing, but I will wait for a peer review before making any...

Production 1 "Photos and Cover Start, 12/15/20"

On this date, I managed to find where I wanted to take my photos, and the angles I thought would be best for this. I did, however, refrain from taking the photos at the time in order to first get a camera with slightly better quality, which I knew I would get soon. I also started working on some ideas for my cover in illustrator, in order to see which of my ideas for it would work and which would need changing. What I did for the cover up to this point was the logo, which I have decided may need changing. I had spent today in class and some days prior on my own time trying to turn a dog head into a logo in the corner using primarily filters, but I am uncertain as to whether I will change this or not.  I do intend to work on this design until I get it right, but in the event I do not I will likely scrap the idea.

Storyboard

As I was creating my storyboard, I had a difficult time managing to put my ideas on to paper. In James M. Higgins article, "storyboard your way to success," he goes over the importance of creativity and communication, and unfortunately, I believe that my lack of artistic ability made it difficult for me to communicate my ideas, especially those regarding images. Despite this difficulty, it was beneficial for me to have a way to put my ideas down on something concrete, as this showed me where many of my flaws were, and it allowed to correct what I could see. This also proved to be enjoyable at times since I found it a little fun to deal with these challenges, as I had to force my brain to change my initial vision. It is like what Annermaree O'Brien describes in the article, "Filmmaking across the curriculum: a beginner's guide." In it, the importance of critical thinking skills and problem solving is emphasized, and I feel that even if the outcome was no...

Preliminary Layout

For my preliminary layout, I have come up with ideas for my cover, fea ture  article, and content page.   For my cover, I intend to have the main image being an open door, as to represent what the feature article will be about. Though this may change, I will have the  font as timberline, in size 115 for the title, with the names of the articles inside being viner hand ITC, at size 24. The masthead will be  BadDog , though this is also subject to change, it is w hat I currently have in mind. The selling line for this will be “the greatest help for the worst behavior,” in order to refer to my general theme of dog behavioral issues.   The feature article will be titled “Being the Warden: How to Prevent Your Dog from Escaping.”  The content for this article will consist of information verified by dog behavioral experts on how to keep dogs from escaping and information on why they might be trying to do so. The ideas I  currently have for the images o...

Creativity & Genre

Image
The creative process is extremely important when embarking upon a new endeavor in a field ripe with choices . When going over  the TED talk last week, the speaker talked about how when you think creatively, you can come up with unique solutions. While at plac es such as work, people have a concrete idea of what to do and how to do, they are unable to think outside the box, and in a  competitive  market, that means you don’t stand out against a sea of other people .  When I worked on the New Introductions activity, I experienced the difficulty in coming up with new ways of going about something, even in something as simple as  an introduction.  The interview with Ron  Beghetto , an article written by Mi ch ael Shaughnessy in September 2020, was also useful in realizing the importance of creativity.  O ne example that  Beghetto  gave was teaching. With standardized testing,...
